Dynasty (1355 B.C.E). By Unknown artist. The sculpture was discovered at the site Aket Aton (Horizon of Aton) modern day Tel el-Amarna south of Cairo-Egypt. The portrait is believed to represent Queen Tiye, the wife of Amenhotep III and the mother of Akhenaten. This art work is historically important because Queen Tiye was one of the most influential women in ancient Egyptian history. She had political influence during her husband’s reign and continued to be a respected figure during the reign of her son.
